How to solve a maze
Start at the green dot (the entrance) and find your way to the red dot (the exit) without crossing any walls. Every maze on PuzzleSheets has exactly one path from the entrance to the exit. There are no loops and no shortcuts.
Shapes and difficulty
- Square: the classic grid maze.
- Circle: rings around a centre. Start in the middle and work your way out.
- Hexagon: six-sided cells give six possible directions at every step.
- Triangle: triangular cells inside a big triangle. Enter at the top, leave at the bottom.
Harder mazes are bigger and have more junctions along the correct path, so you have to make more decisions, and the dead ends are longer and more tempting.
Using the player
- Drag from the entrance to draw your path through the open passages.
- Drag back over your path to undo, or use Step back and Clear path.
- On a keyboard, use the arrow keys to move and Backspace to step back.
- Your progress is saved on this device. Save code / Continue later lets you carry on elsewhere.
Tips
- Work backwards. Sometimes the exit is easier to reach from the other side.
- Follow one wall. In a maze like this, keeping one hand on a wall always leads you to the exit, even if it isn’t the fastest route.
- Spot dead ends. On paper, shade dead ends lightly to rule them out.
Printing
Print 1, 2 or 4 mazes per page on A4 or US Letter, with an optional answer key showing the solution path. Great for classrooms, waiting rooms and long car journeys.
