How to play
Kakuro is a crossword with numbers. Fill every white cell with a digit from 1 to 9. A run is a line of white cells across or down. The clue in the grey cell before a run gives its sum: the number below the diagonal is for the run going down, the number above it for the run going across. No digit repeats inside a run.
Every kakuro on PuzzleSheets has exactly one solution, checked by a solver, and you can always reach it by logic.
Difficulty
- Easy: a small 6×6 grid with runs of two or three cells.
- Medium: 8×8 with runs of up to five cells.
- Hard: 10×10 with runs of up to four cells, and more of them to juggle.
- Expert: 10×10 with runs of up to five cells, which allow many more combinations.
Tips
- Learn the unique sums. Two cells: 3 = 1 + 2, 4 = 1 + 3, 16 = 7 + 9, 17 = 8 + 9. Three cells: 6 = 1 + 2 + 3, 7 = 1 + 2 + 4, 23 = 6 + 8 + 9, 24 = 7 + 8 + 9.
- Cross the runs. A cell belongs to an across run and a down run: it must hold a digit both allow.
- Look for digits that must appear. 10 in four cells is always 1 + 2 + 3 + 4, so each of those digits appears exactly once.
- Use notes. Pencil in the possible digits and cross them off.
